We recently spent a day at Alton Towers Resort and had lunch at the Rollercoaster Restaurant. It’s an incredibly fun and unique dining experience—completely unlike anything I’ve seen before. Your food is delivered right to your table on an actual rollercoaster track! Sounds amazing, right? Here’s our full review…
The Rollercoaster Restaurant, which opened in 2016, is located in the Forbidden Valley area next to the Galactica ride. It’s the UK’s very first rollercoaster-themed restaurant.
“Located at Alton Towers Resort, the Rollercoaster Restaurant is set beneath a vast rollercoaster track. Gather with friends, colleagues, or family for a one-of-a-kind dining experience.”
The restaurant is open daily from 11:00 AM to 9:30 PM during the season, and it offers two different menus depending on the time of day. I highly recommend booking a table in advance—it was very busy when we visited, which is no surprise given how unique the experience is.
When we arrived, a friendly staff member welcomed us, guided us to our table, and explained how to place our order using a tablet. Yet another fun and modern twist that makes the restaurant so distinctive.
Once we had placed our order, we just had to wait for our food to roll down to us—literally—on the rollercoaster track. The kids were thrilled watching the dishes race down, hoping it was their order arriving. Watching your meal do loops and spiral down eight meters to the table was genuinely impressive and kept the little ones fully entertained.
The food arrived in small containers strapped to the track. Once it stops at your table, you simply unstrap the dish and serve it.
James and I shared a selection of starters, which were all delicious. The kids chose meals from the children’s menu and were really happy with their food. You can check out the sample menu from the Rollercoaster Restaurant online.
As for the price, it’s a bit higher than a typical restaurant—like £14 for a burger with chips and coleslaw—but given the unforgettable experience and the fact that it’s inside a theme park, I think it’s perfectly fair.
We had a fantastic time at the Rollercoaster Restaurant and would definitely return on our next visit to Alton Towers. I’d highly recommend it, especially if you’re going with kids—they’re bound to love it! The food was great, the staff were super friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was vibrant and full of excitement as everyone watched their meals zip along the tracks.
