This past weekend, we headed to Eastfield Farm in Tickhill, Doncaster for a classic autumn activity—pumpkin picking! It’s honestly one of my favourite things to do in the fall, and I plan to keep bringing the kids along with me for as long as they’ll let me—even if it’s against their will!
We’ve visited Eastfield Farm before, but only for strawberry and sunflower picking. If you get the chance, I highly recommend a summer visit—the sunflowers are stunning and make for perfect photo ops! The farm is really easy to find, just off the M18 and only about a 40-minute drive from north Sheffield.
Normally, we go to Farmer Copleys in Pontefract for our pumpkins, which is also fantastic, but it was fully booked this year. That’s the thing with Farmer Copleys—it’s super popular and fills up fast. Plus, they charge an entry fee, unlike Eastfield Farm. At Eastfield, there’s no need to book, and entry and parking are free.
Opening hours are daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the last pick at 4:30 PM. We got there around 3:30 PM and still had plenty of time. Although there was a queue when we arrived, it had completely disappeared by the time we left—so I’d recommend going later in the day if you can.
The farm also has a cosy café serving hot chocolate, cakes, and spiced pumpkin soup. And don’t miss the farm shop, which sells fresh fruit, veg, and other local goodies like jams and chutneys.
Besides pumpkins, you can also pick corn, which is priced at 50p each. Perfect excuse to get the TikTok corn song stuck in your head while strolling through the fields!
Of course, there are loads of cute photo spots scattered throughout the farm—because let’s be real, what’s a pumpkin patch visit without some Instagram-worthy pics?
The pumpkin field itself was much bigger than I expected, with tons of pumpkins still available. Fun fact: they planted 100,000 pumpkin plants over 27 acres! There are 15 varieties to choose from, including ghost pumpkins (the white ones) and knucklehead pumpkins (the quirky, knobbly ones).
Prices range from £1 to £12 depending on size. We picked six pumpkins of all shapes and sizes and paid £20 in total. You can pay by cash or card. Sure, it’s pricier than the supermarket—but the experience makes it totally worth it. My kids absolutely love pumpkin picking and look forward to it every year.
Final tip: wheelbarrows are free to use, but don’t forget to bring your own cutters, as the farm doesn’t provide them.
