As every year, we encourage you to celebrate Children’s Day with your family and check what Warsaw cultural institutions have prepared for this occasion. This time it will be a celebration different than usual, because in the shadow of the pandemic and quarantine – due to the situation in the country, large outdoor events were abandoned and most of the events offered on that day to the youngest were transferred to the network.

We do not encourage you to spend the whole day in front of the computer, but we are giving you some suggestions for nice family online activities (and not only :-), found in the offer of cultural institutions. Don’t worry, it will not be just clicking on the web, but rather encouraging creative educational, artistic and physical games 🙂

The only non-virtual option in this list, i.e. an invitation to participate in the family field game “Wytrop Kropki!” in Łazienki Królewskie (of course, in compliance with all safety rules). Are they low or high? Exercise your eye! ”. It is a real treat for all seekers of secrets and “treasures”, as well as for lovers of charades and puzzles. The game “Track the dots!” was inspired by the interactive version of the book “Museum of Delights. A painting guide to the Royal Łazienki ”.

Zachęta – National Gallery of Art

Zachęta prepared an online family workshop around the exhibition “Two plays are better than one”:

May 29 – Artists activists! Female activists! Is it possible to change the course of the river? How to keep a nature reserve? Can you do it with art? Cecylia Malik has been showing the world for years how to fight for nature, which is extremely close to her. Its actions attract thousands of people who disguise themselves as river ghosts, walk around the city in butterfly’s cardboard wings, and swim down the Vistula on a barge. We will learn how we can express ourselves to change what hurts us; how to make our voice heard. Beautifully heard. During the workshop, we will jointly determine a topic that is important to the participants. We will look for a form for a happening that will allow us to speak and appear in an upbuilding and positive way. We will learn how to use art as a tool of expression, action and change. The classes will also be an opportunity to view the exhibition together in a virtual form.

May 30 – Sea monsters in isolation. The workshops are inspired by the work of Monika Drożyńska and her son Tymon Słapak presented at the exhibition for children Two plays are better than one. When Tymon was sick and spent long hours at home, he started drawing Creatures with his mother. When in a similar situation, we will use the idea of the artist and her son and draw a fantastic, alternative world where there will be room for well-known animals, as well as beasts or monsters from our imaginations. Like Tymon, we will use old illustrations of animals, bestiaries and herbariums. The classes will also be an opportunity to view the exhibition together in a virtual form.

May 31 – Paper sculpture park. The sculptures have been made of various materials for centuries: wood, metal, clay, stone. However, to create them, you need professional tools and a huge workshop. We, based on the fantastic sculptural forms of Kinga Nowak and Tytus, will make our dream shapes out of paper and create an amazing sculpture park from them! We will also try to imagine how they could work in the space we invented. The classes will also be an opportunity to see the exhibition together in a virtual form.
